I am a passionate certified teacher who loves working with students of all ages. I have had the privilege to travel internationally with different groups sharing my love of music with the world. Several of my students were given the opportunity to perform in Boston, Philadelphia, and New York (Carnegie Hall) with their youth orchestras. As a strong believer of the KIPP mission and vision, I work hard to instill the truths spoken to me behind the process of getting to and through college, constantly reminded by the words of Marianne Williamson that “our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure.” There are 2 things that I believe in regards to education: 1) All students can/will learn. 2) It is not whether or not you are smart, but rather HOW you are smart, citing Gardner's Theory of Intelligence. I like to tailor my teaching methods to each individual student. I know from taking lessons myself that no two violinist are alike, and it would be silly to teach as if they were. For my younger students, I really like to focus on the fundamentals of violin technique so that they can have a firm foundation on which they can improve. I also try to include music theory and music history into my lessons so that a student leaves each lesson not only as a better violinist, but as a better overall musician. Read More

After over7+ years of teaching and over 20+ years of musical expereince, I have combined the use of numerous books into my own method. Much of what I have learned also comes from personal expereince. I use audio tracks I record in my studio to give students the experience of playing with other musicians. They practice with their instrument in the track, and I also give them a track without their instrument so they get the feel of being the drummer, or the keyboard player, or the guitarist. Read More

I have been teaching since my late high school years. I have taught various private lessons part time in the Houston area and aided some of my teachers in teaching 5th grade strings. When I entered college, I started teaching middle school students privately in the Waco area and teaching general music education in Baylor's OsoMusical program for special needs children. I love seeing the interesting ties between elementary and secondary music education and the impact of the basic foundations of music! Read More
