For beginning students who are children, I typically start with either Music for Little Mozarts Series or Piano Adventure Series with essential music theory related piano. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoires appropriate for their performance levels. I will begin to introduce solo work as skills build, but we will always be working on something that the student genuinely is interested in. For adults/ intermediate or advanced students i try to find what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons fun and engaging while also slightly challenging to further understanding of technical abilities. I want my students to have fun, but to also engage in very structured learning. All students must find time to practice during the week, but the parents must be a huge part of helping their child learn this new instrument. We will set weekly, realistic goals for each lesson. During the lesson, we will review the last concept that was learned, go over the lesson for the day and then create a lesson for the following week and be sure that each lesson is explained and understood.
