My other music delight is composition, and I have written scores for my own esemble group to perform at weddings and events while also selling some online. I also wrote an arrangement for a fellow music teacher's ensemble to perform for their spring concert. I prefer to teach using the Suzuki books, since I believe it is a well rounded learning of fun music while teaching technique and musical abilities. I expect my students to practice at least 6 times a week. My students are encouraged to practice by ear, to encourage the love for music. If the student is more advanced, they will begin working on Carl Flesch Scales and Wolfhart etudes. When I was a kid, I watched a movie called The Red Slipper about an aspiring ballet dancer auditioning for a prestigious ballet company. The director asked her why she wanted to dance, and she replied, “Why do you want to breathe?” That phrase has stuck with me throughout the years, because to me music is just as vital as breathing.
