In the third grade, I began playing violin for orchestras in New Orleans, Louisiana and later had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of the New Orleans Creative Center for the Arts. Working within the Suzuki method, I start each student out with working on posture, technique, and the fundamentals of the violin before moving on to reading/playing. It is crucial to develop good technique/posture before moving on to reading! Once this is established, it is pretty smooth sailing from there. My teaching philosophy revolved around the idea that music should be fun and engaging. While many teachers start their students off by learning how to read music, I like to begin with actually playing and familiarizing yourself with the instrument and later translating that information to written music notation. In your first lesson, we will play the instrument and learn a simple tune based on your skill level. I like to take into account the students music preference and learn what specifically they want to get out of private lessons. Read More
