Begining Students I work on creating a nice tone and understanding of instrument as a whole.  I use standard of excellence training books and move on depending on students willingness and skill. Teach Jazz Improv to all levels.  Concentrate on jazz vocabulary, expression, style, and creating in the moment. Also teach meditation which leads to better practice and healthier living. I'm hands-on, affirming, and challenging at the same time: I believe in gently recognizing areas of improvement, which we work on through fostering a positive, "no-wrong-answers" approach. I create a safe space for my students and encourage them to explore all areas and facets of the instrument; in doing so, students are then able to express themselves more dynamically in classical music, and to improvise more creatively in jazz. For the beginning and intermediate trumpet, cornet, alto horn, baritone, euphonium and bass student, we will use Arban's Complete Conservatory Method. The speed of progress will depend on the students basic knowledge of musicality. For the beginning and intermediate trombone student, I have my own teaching plan as well as Blazhevich's School for Trombone in Clefs. Again, the speed of progress will depend on the students degree of musicality. Like Most trumpet players, I follow and believe in using essential trumpet books (Arbans, Clarke, Flexus, Schlossberg, etc) and use others that depend on the desires of the musician. For children and/or beginners, I incorporate a little keyboard, to help with some theory basics, since all the notes are laid out. I have always struggled with my musical interests differing from my teachers while growing, so I develop my lessons based on each student, and play music that will both incorporate the teachings of the lesson, and also play music that is enjoyable for them, as well as etudes, or anything they would like to work on.
