I'm a quietly passionate instructor motivated by my love of music and my students. In 2016, I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a Minor in Music. As an undergrad, I often found my love of music creeping into my major coursework-- including my thesis! I've loved practicing and performing for over a decade (which is also more than half of my life!). From receiving my very first "Band Student of the Month" award in the fifth grade to helping soon-to-be-fifth graders achieve that goal themselves, I cannot express how much I love this instrument and the opportunities it has provided. I am not a fan of "rote learning" so my lessons tend to include a large amount of cognitive thinking by me constantly asking questions and making you pay attention to your own playing habits. Nothing says, "I am learning," like seeing a student understand a concept or command a new ability for the first time. I set realistic goals and help guide my students towards their goals. I have been playing trumpet since the summer of 2006 and have been in love with the art form ever since. I am also an advocate for historic music performance practice and an avid avant-garde performer. I hold degrees from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school program and the Eastman School of Music.
