Practice doesn't make perfect; PERFECT practice makes perfect! The best way to develop a skill is to work consistently and carefully, which is why I encourage all of my students not just to practice until they get it right, but to practice until they can't get it wrong. That being said, students must work at their own pace for this method to be effective. I use my own technique exercises that I write and cater for each of my students. I am a huge fan of the Arban's technique book for brass, but I like to keep lessons fun with songs that challenge my students at their level. Once the student has progressed to the intermediate level - solid fundamentals, musicianship, and a desire for learning - I introduce solo repertoire. I am also an advocate for historic music performance practice and an avid avant-garde performer. I hold degrees from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school program and the Eastman School of Music.
