I cater my teaching to the students needs as an individual and their goals. I am interested in fostering their inate musical abilities, as well as the musical skills they wish to obtain. If the student is in a school instrumental program, I always defer to the band director as the student spends more time with them. As I've said above, my teaching is curtailed to the individual needs of my students. I stress development as a complete musician, and that often includes breaking away from technique to discuss other ideas like music theory, ear training, etc. Most importantly, I can explain difficult concepts in many ways. My teaching experience dates all the way back to my high school days when I gave trumpet lessons to some younger family members.  I expanded to giving trumpet lessons to adults and youth during my undergraduate days at The University of Akron.  When I started graduate school there, I began teaching voice lessons, composition and arranging lessons, and conducting lessons.  I also have experience teaching in group and classroom settings for college and high school aged students. I began teaching privately in my sophomore year of high school. I had always known that I wanted to become a music teacher, but this is the time of my life when I really started discovering my potential in the education community. Students that I have worked with have achieved Superior Ratings in OMEA Solo and Ensemble events, have been part of various honor bands and extra-curricular groups.
