In Middle school, I began tutoring classmates in mathematics and realized the importance of making the intangible, accessible and that not everyone will innately use the same approach, method, process or visualization to arrive at the solution. In High school I tutored German and Casteon, and it became obvious that "How" we hear is extremely important to "what" we hear, and, are able to replicate. I began teaching piano privately in undergraduate music school by tutoring piano to music majors that were non-piano students. It was required that all non-piano stsudents must take 2 semesters of functional piano. I continued fulfilling this role from 1981-1985. In 1997 I began teaching private piano lessons to students in my school that had an interest in learning piano after school. I have my own set of warm-ups and exercises that I have compiled from a multitude of method and technique books. These aim to improve the students over all technical skill set. I also assign a variety of etudes appropriate for the students level to help develop their musicianship. I supplement most lessons with music theory that is relevant to the trumpet and/or the piece playing.
