ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Current junior at the University of Nevada, Reno studying music with an emphasis in trumpet performance: stuednt of Jonathan Bhatia. Previous private instuctors include Paul Lenz and Jeff Derdarian.

Overview:
I am a current student at the University of Nevada, Reno studying for my B.A. in general music with a minor in business administration. I picked up my first trumpet when I was in 6th grade-- a whole 9 years ago-- and I never looked back. Some of the many ensembles I have played for include the Tahoe Toccata Symphony Orchestra, the Reno Pops Orchestra, freelance musical theater orchestra pits, and various ensembles with UNR. Being in band and playing the trumpet has provided me some of the most amazing and unforgettable experiences in my life and I hope to provide the same to my students.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to when I was in high school giving lessons to middle schoolers and beginning level high schoolers as a teacher's assistant at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School and Douglas High School. Continuing out of high school, I'm now a brass tech for Damonte Ranch High School and a private lessons instructor with Musika. Teaching is one of the most rewarding experiences I've had within the music world. I love being able to watch how my students progress and begin to find even more success with their instrument. My priority when teaching is making sure my students are having fun and finding success so they can develop their own passion for music and their instrument
METHODS USED
I have my own set of warm-ups and exercises that I have compiled from a multitude of method and technique books. These aim to improve the students over all technical skill set. I also assign a variety of etudes appropriate for the students level to help develop their musicianship. I supplement most lessons with music theory that is relevant to the trumpet and/or the piece playing. Once some fundamentals have been established, I like to start working on solo literature that the student would be interested in. Of course, I aid in preparation for auditions and school work if applicable.
LESSON STYLE
Firstly, I believe that relationships are everything when it come to effective teaching. With every session, my goal is to progress a positive student-teacher relationship that allows the student to feel safe, comfortable, and ,most importantly, supported. It is important to me that I do not move so fast that my students feel like they're drowning, but I move fast enough to keep progress happening. Finding that just right balance is one of my top priorities. I'm huge on setting weekly practice goals as well as larger, future oriented goals that I can help my students move towards. During every lesson, I take lesson notes for my students to look back on so they can remember what we went over, remember what goals they have for our next lesson, and reflect on the weekly progress they are making.

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
