I'm a huge music theory and composition person and would love to work with students interested in theory and song writing. I love working with all styles with a vocal focus in musical theater, classical, jazz, and contemporary (pop, indie, folk etc..) and an instrumental focus in classical, contemporary (rock, punk, metal, indie, folk etc..) and music from all over the world. I have a great enjoyment and love for music since a child. Since then from 2015, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a degree in both trumpet performance and jazz studies. I saturated myself to know a great deal and variety of genres in music. In 2016, I toured for a year playing around 10 different states and venues for audiences around the country. When working in private lessons, I work with each student to set goals, both long and short term. I then assume the role of a guide whenever possible, rather than an authoritarian figure, so that sudents can discover concepts for themselves vs. having the information given to them. When students discover the concepts for themselves, they tend to understand them much better because they have learned them through practical use. Read More

For all beginning students, I usually will take a lesson or two to assess where the student is at regarding music, depending on (if any) previous experience with music, e.g. piano lessons, etc. For trumpet students, I am not beholden to any one instructional method book. I'm a firm believer in taking a student where they are and building off of their interests. Finding what a student is interested in and using that as a starting point is a part of my teaching approach. At the same time, there are some things that are critical to be taught at every level that should be incorporated on some level so there's a holistic and balanced education. I find a combination of fundamental skills, scales, music theory, some history, critical thinking and analysis combined with whatever solo or individual study from school or other sources. Read More
