Teaching music is my life's greatest passion and I am so blessed to have the opportunity to do that every day. In 2016, I graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. While there, I performed in all kinds of ensembles from wind bands, to jazz ensembles, to pop groups. I also performed with Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps in 2013. I have had the opportunity to travel all over the country making music. Read More

I have worked for years with students in a variety of settings--from public schools to jails and prisons to community college. I am skilled at meeting students where they are at and designing a musical curriculum that fits their needs. All students need a combination of positive encouragement and rigorous practice. We will come up with a game-plan that fits your goals, whether those include learning a new instrument, improving your skill at an instrument you can already play, songwriting, or playing gigs. I began teaching privately during high school. I would teach local middle school students. I have taught privately off and on since then. I encourage regular practice at home on a consistent schedule. I work with whichever book the students classroom teacher uses and also supplement my own pieces. I encourage students to have a say in their own learning by picking music they like that will still be educational. Read More

Ever since then, I have been studying different pedagogical techniques for both trumpet and music in general. My belief is that, in order for a student to have the most success, they must set a goal for themselves. Read More

For students of all ages I use a combination of the student's own personal experience with music along with trumpet specific brass pedagogy to achieve a student's personal goals. One of the first discussions we have is what kind of music the student likes/dislikes, what kinds of music they've performed and/or studied, and what their individual goals are as a musician. From there we collaborate to tailor a custom plan for the student; parts of this plan include a warm up routine and practice schedule, short term and long term goals, frequent listening suggestions and aural analysis, and repertoire and projects that are tailor made to be applicable to a student's interests.
