By the second year they should finish book 1 and start book 2; work on parts of book 3 as they can play a complete scale or scales and then use book 3 as appropriate. I began teaching professionally in the Bay Area about 30 years ago. I have taught in a variety of settings includings classes, group lessons, in music stores, for school districts, at students' homes and in my own private studio. Every person learns differently and I am highly skilled at detecting this and using it to my students' advantage. With every session, my goal is to progress a positive student-teacher relationship that allows the student to feel safe, comfortable, and ,most importantly, supported.
