My teaching style includes positive reinforcement, making and achieving small measurable goals that lead to big measurable goals, and teaching and instilling correct daily practice methods. I encourage each student to do their best each day and push through the difficult places. When something is too difficult for a student, I break it down into smaller, more understandable pieces, or change tactics to a different subject or piece. For beginner students, I recommend Essentials of Band for Trumpet. Once the student has a solid foundation of the fundamentals of music, I introduce them to more intermediate level books such as Flexus, Arbans, and Classical Trumpet playing. No matter the level of any student, I always make sure they understand the parts of the Trumpet. I usually give small mini quizzes, and reward the student with small gifts.
