My first teaching experiences were with my father during solo and ensemble. Having hired me as an accompanist for his students, I found myself rehearsing these students moreso than accompanying them. From that point I felt encouraged to teach and help others perfect their craft. My biggest influences would have to be my past teachers, one of which taught me younger and the other as I matured. At the very beginning level I would start with fundamentals from whatever book I feel would be best for the student depending on their age and knowledge. For beginners, I like to provide a custom packet of mine in which I send to my students to not only assess their current aptitude on the instrument but the packet will serve as a their fundamental guide in order to stay focused on progressing even while learning new and exciting music of their own choosing. Moving forward with Advanced, Intermediate, and Professional level students, I like to provide each level student the same materials and recommend the same books but in terms of personal music goals and solo repertoire, I would tailor the works to that student's progress level and what they plan to accomplish during our time together.
