I began teaching lessons in Texas in 2012 and have been since. My first major success as a teacher came in 2015 when I had a trumpet student of mine make the Texas ATSSB All-State Jazz Band. Every student is different, and for that reason I tailor each students materials to their needs. Some students are advanced enough to begin learning from Rochut's Melodious Etudes book, while some may need something easier than that, like Cimera's Phrasing Studies book. I focus hard on the fundamentals of the instrument and don't introduce material that is too hard for the student. My ultimate goal in teaching music students is to develop players who are intrinsically motivated. This is a long-term process which I enjoy guiding. I'm very interested in the psychology of motivation for each individual student, realizing that what "works" with one student may not be effective with another. I enjoy developing a relationship with individual students which is based on more than our involvement in music. I'm a firm believer that teaching individual lessons is about more than just music; it's a special one-on-one, teacher-student relationship which can have a positive, life-long impact. Read More

I am a recent graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where I received my Masters of Music in Trumpet Performance with Eric Berlin. In my time there, I was a member of the Graduate Brass Quintet, Faculty Brass Quintet, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Trumpet Ensemble. I also had the opportunity to perform on two concerts with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra in Symphony Hall. Regardless of the level of musician, basic fundamentals are extremely important to a brass musician. In fundamental studies, we will learn lip slurs, tonguing exercises, efficient breathing, excellent buzzing technique, etc. We will achieve maximum proficiency in basic fundamentals by using method books (according to skill level) , such as Remington, Schlossberg, Arban's, ect., and personally curated exercises designed for the individual.
