I have additional materials, like the LaFosse, for beginners who have a higher starting range than the majority. I write out personalized daily routines for all my beginners. For high school students, I help the student develop a daily routine which incorporates exercises from the Schlossberg warmups, Colin's Advanced Lip Flexibilities, Vernon's The Singing Approach, the Arban method, and sometimes others. These introductory books are the ones I first learned from, and feature a wide variety of musical styles to give students an idea of the breadth of possibilities on their instrument. Once the student has a firm understanding of the basics of the instrument, or with students who have prior playing experience, I will turn to more standard method and technique books, such as Arban's Conservatory Methods or Clarke's Technical Studies. We will extensively on flexibility and scales through out all stages of development as well as intonation on the instrument.
