I have had performance experience in a wide array of ensembles from concert band, symphony orchestra, steel band, to brass choir and beyond. Modern middle and high schoolers can be very busy and it is not productive to give them too much than they can handle. I started teaching about fifty years ago including private instruction as well as coaching and conducting bands, orchestras and chamber groups. I have become a better teacher with age since I have picked up procedures and strategies which have proved effective in encouraging my students to make music.
