For beginning trombone students, I typically work with the Rubank Elementary Method (old, but it works well), the Emory Remington Warm-Up Studies, and various material that I compose to help a student overcome their weaknesses. Different learning styles, whether it be visual, aural, verbal, or physical, are present in all classrooms. Unfortunately, teachers do not always cater to every students needs. I believe that differentiate should be a huge part of every learning environment and plan to include multiple learning styles in my teaching environment to best provide for the student. I taught my first trombone lessons when I was still in high school, and I've always felt a strong connection to teaching (my parents are teachers too). When I was getting my masters, I began teaching beginning brass classes at local elementary schools, and this expanded into several elementary band classes upon graduation. Trombone became my minor instrument and expand my playing to orchestras and Jazz ensembles. I college I tried out for my first show as a performer on stage and have been doing ever since and continue to this day. I love the spotlights. I am a professional jazz musician and composer in the Tampa Bay Area, playing gigs whenever I can, subbing in for USF, writing music for marching bands and other jazz groups, and more!
