My teaching style is to get the student engaged during the lesson. I want the student to have fun and develop a true passion and understanding for music and the instrument. This is one of the reasons why the musical repertoire chosen is based on the students musical preferences rather than only playing generic tunes from the method book. It is my belief that if students can take the fundamentals they learn and apply it by playing music that is actually fun and enjoyable for them, it makes the experience of lessons more effective. I taught elementary music for twenty plus years in the public school system (band, chorus, and classroom music). Additionally, I have taught private music lessons, traveling to my students’ homes and in my studio. I find being a teacher very rewarding because by imparting my musical knowledge, background, and experiences to my students, I can encourage and instill in them the same love of music that I was so fortunate to acquire. During the first lesson I use specific techniques to understand student learning styles and levels of musicianship. From there, my lessons are specifically geared to meet the student at their current level. The most important thing to me is to make sure my students love what they do. So I like to make sure that I'm always challenging them but never pushing them too hard, helping them get better at their own pace. At the end of each lesson I like to send students with a sheet having their required and suggested practice materials for the next lesson.
