I'm a multi-instrumentalist who loves making music with other people. Making music is a fundamental human experience, and too many people feel that it is out of reach for them, or that the only way to participate in music-making is to play in a band or orchestra. I fully believe that there are many valid ways of learning and playing music, as well as calling yourself a musician. My journey has not been typical for a musician: after a lifetime of casual music-making, I decided at the age of 43 to go back to school for a degree in Music Education from The University of Arizona. I'm a passionate and curious musician. I'm self-taught in the styles of classical and jazz from when I picked up the clarinet I found at a Salvation Army at the age of 10. I taught myself until I started college and studied with Kelly Lake, Stephanie Gardner, Jeff Quamo and Cris Inguanti at NAU. While working toward receiving my Masters in Clarinet performance at NAU, I taught music theory and aural perception at the undergraduate level. In addition to teaching I've had two pieces written and recorded for me along with a couple tracks on a comedian's recent albums. My earliest experience teaching was as a music counselor at a summer festival called French Woods. During my two summers working there, I taught students of all ages and skill levels on tenor and bass trombone, including private lessons. At French Woods I learned that I loved helping young musicians grow. After obtaining my Masters Degree in 2020 I focused on music education, and I have worked as a teacher for more than two years.
