I began teaching shortly after I graduated with my master degree from the Cleveland Institute of music, and I have been teaching consistently since that time. I encourage my students to keep to a regular practice schedule, which is especially helpful for new musicians. while this can sometimes be difficult, I always work with my students to try and find a way to help them to make consistent progress. I try to foster an environment where students are free to ask any questions they may have. Read More

Growing up with a music teacher for a mom, I began playing piano, learning music theory, and sight-reading at age 5. After years of studying piano, I expanded my musical journey by picking up the trombone, bass, guitar, and drums by the age of 12. I am a passionate instructor who loves to watch students grow and develop. The majority of my teaching experience has been in the realm of sports and physical education, however, I have a deep love for music and it brings me joy to share my gifts with others. Read More

Reading music is emphasized in school ensembles, yet some students are reluctant to read music. I can accommodate students who'd rather learn exclusively by the aural tradition. When my student is eager to read I like to start with the Walter Beeler Method Book One. I supplement it with duets. Some students can work from the Rubank Supplementary Studies along with the Walter Beeler. Afterwards the Edwards-Hovey Method Book Two is very nice. Read More

For beginning brass students, I have used Essential Elements 2000, Standard of Excellence, and the Student Instrumental Course. As students become more capable, we move into method books and repertoire written specifically for their instrument. Lessons include a combination of mastering the physical challenges of the instrument and developing musicality. Music to be studied is chosen based on the needs of the student. As students become more advanced, I enjoy involving them in the selection of repertoire to be studied. Read More

I also had the opportunity to perform on two concerts with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra in Symphony Hall. I did my undergraduate work at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, where I received two Bachelors of Music, in Trumpet performance and Music Education. Read More
