I have always loved sharing knowledge with others. I especially love sharing my musical knowledge with others. I want people to have fun making music and I believe the way to do that is to find creative ways to make practice interesting. But making music is also about creating relationships so I encourage my students to take advantage of the ways that performing music opens new doors and creates avenues for new friendships. Read More

I am a professional jazz musician and composer in the Tampa Bay Area, playing gigs whenever I can, subbing in for USF, writing music for marching bands and other jazz groups, and more! I teach there twice a week, and I have overall 12 students that I teach private individual lessons, mostly trombone, but also euphonium, tuba, and also trumpet as well. Read More

Much of this depends on where the student is in their learning progression--if they are just starting out, then I will focus on the fundamentals of good trombone playing, and work with the basic books like Arban's methods for Trombone. Learning a musical instrument should always be a very rewarding and satisfying experience. Therefore, I have a large variety of techniques in my musical bag of tricks to challenge all types of learners. During my 10 years as a full time band director, I have developed many musical "games", often based on Suzuki methods, to make learning fundamentals, scales, and repertoire much more enjoyable. These include practice rewards, Band Olympics, ninja karate belts, and Harry Potter themed games. Read More

My general philosophy in music teaching is to ensure that the student, regardless of background and ability, learns something from music aside from performance skills. Nothing excites me more than to see that a student feels happy from learning something new or overcoming a challenge. However, I also aim to build a positive relationship with students by seeking new ways to keep the lessons fun and to ensure that they are satisfied with the music they are learning, etc. Read More
