In 2016, I graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. While there, I performed in all kinds of ensembles from wind bands, to jazz ensembles, to pop groups. I also performed with Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps in 2013. For beginning students I focus on getting them used to the first 5 most common notes on their instrument through both beginner methods and technical exercises. I can use whatever method they already have or I can recommend a method for us to study. For more advanced students I work with them through any required music they may have (if a band student at a school) or through solo and more advanced technical exercises along with genres they find interesting. For children, my foundational methods include Leonard, Krueger, Clarke, Arban, Reinhardt, Rizzetto, Pearson, and Rubank. Solo and ensemble repertoire is introduced at the appropriate time. Time is also spent on improvisation, writing original compositions, and learning music that the students have brought to the lesson. For adults, we focus on what students are interested in working on, regardless of their ability level.
