My ultimate goal in teaching music students is to develop players who are intrinsically motivated. This is a long-term process which I enjoy guiding. I'm very interested in the psychology of motivation for each individual student, realizing that what "works" with one student may not be effective with another. I enjoy developing a relationship with individual students which is based on more than our involvement in music. I love teaching because I believe most, if not all, people love music and can learn to love making music. I want it to be fun for them, to keep them interested. I believe that a set of expectations on the student is required to keep them motivated, but I am never upset or disappointed if they don't practice enough. I think keeping them involved in music is the most important part, and I know that many students will not pursue a full time career in music, but music is valuable to them in so many ways. Read More

I am a native of Houston, Texas and a trumpet player. I attended Stephen F. Austin State University for my Bachelor's Degree,and afterwards I decided to move to Cincinnati to study with a few of the trumpet players in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Regardless of the level of musician, basic fundamentals are extremely important to a brass musician. In fundamental studies, we will learn lip slurs, tonguing exercises, efficient breathing, excellent buzzing technique, etc. We will achieve maximum proficiency in basic fundamentals by using method books (according to skill level) , such as Remington, Schlossberg, Arban's, ect., and personally curated exercises designed for the individual. Every student is different, and for that reason I tailor each students materials to their needs. Some students are advanced enough to begin learning from Rochut's Melodious Etudes book, while some may need something easier than that, like Cimera's Phrasing Studies book. I focus hard on the fundamentals of the instrument and don't introduce material that is too hard for the student. I also want to make sure that the student is playing their school's band music correctly, and if they need help, I work on that with them. Read More
