I began teaching shortly after I graduated with my master degree from the Cleveland Institute of music, and I have been teaching consistently since that time. I encourage my students to keep to a regular practice schedule, which is especially helpful for new musicians. while this can sometimes be difficult, I always work with my students to try and find a way to help them to make consistent progress. My teaching experience has covered various situations, styles, and instruments. During my undergraduate work I taught general music at an elementary school, and did my student teaching as an instrumental teacher in an elementary school, and as a band teacher in a middle school. In my junior year I spent three weeks teaching in Uganda, where I taught high school aged beginners and intermediate brass and percussionists. During my graduate degree I taught students of various levels and ages privately, and also taught the Trumpet Techniques class, where I taught non trumpet playing music education majors the basics of how to play trumpet as well as how to teach it in their future classrooms. I am invested in providing music instruction to any who wish to study the art. I specialize in brass instruments, as both of my degrees were in music performance on euphonium. I have had performance experience in a wide array of ensembles from concert band, symphony orchestra, steel band, to brass choir and beyond. In middle school, I began performing and teaching music during the summers at Vacation Bible School for children ages 3-10. Throughout high school, as a member of a variety of bands, I performed at a wide array of venues around New England. During this time, I ventured into song writing and musical arrangement. I also spent some time giving private trombone, bass, and guitar lessons in high school. I grew up in the Cleveland area and learned to play trumpet in my school music program starting in the fifth grade, which is typical of my students. I went on to earn a bachelor of music degree from Baldwin Wallace University in 1978. I've also earned a teaching certificate for music K-12, through Cleveland State University in 1993. I have performed frequently in northeast Ohio and have toured the United States, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore. Read More
