For beginner students use the Hal Leonard Essential Elements 2000 method books. These books offer a very detailed and easy fundamental based method to start beginners off on the right foot. These books also utilize simple and recognizable melodies to aid in the student’s learning. For adults, I like to use the Rubank Methods, starting with the Rubank Elementary Method. My teaching style is guided by several simple principles: 1.  Its all about two things; the MUSIC and RELATIONSHIPS. 2. It has to be FUN, or why do it? 3. Nothing is more satisfying (and fun) than getting better at playing an instrument. 4. To get better (and have more fun) you have got to WORK at it. (Hello, practice room!) 5. In order to motivate and help the student progress, I get to know the student as well as possible, model good playing and practice habits ( I play during lessons a LOT, and draw up sample practice plans for students depending on their needs and interests), help them establish GOALS, and use ENTHUSIASM, PATIENCE, PERSISTENCE, and EXPERIENCE to guide them along their musical journey.
