Most of my professional experience has been with the Marine Corps Music Program for 15 years. I also grew up with private piano lessons, and continued band and show choir throughout high school.  Before my career with the Marine Corps Band, I also performed professionally around northern Ohio as a keyboardist and drummer in Top 40 and Rock bands for 3 years. My teaching center is to train every student to think and create music itself. I think music theory and all kinds of instruments are tools to express music. It is my goal to teach students how to use music theory and their instruments to build music ideas, and guide students to view the world in the way of music ideas and build their own music palace. With each lesson, I hope to leave students feeling motivated and excited about music. It can take time before a student realizes the joy of playing his/her instrument. I try to get to that point as quickly as possible by making lessons fun, highly interactive, and encouraging. When possible, I encourage and often escort students to local music venues to experience live performances. For beginning piano, I use the thompson and bastien books, along with basic theory books. As the student progresses, I introduce them to actual peices of vaying styles, as soon as they are ready. For saxophone and clarinet, I use multiple books, depending on the student's needs and goals and a host of my own materials and methods I have developed from years of teaching. I always concentrate on learning how to breathe corrctly and produce a smooth and constant airflow to produce a nice, steady, controlled tone. Read More
