Learning a musical instrument should always be a very rewarding and satisfying experience.  Therefore, I have a large variety of techniques in my musical bag of tricks to challenge all types of learners.  During my 10 years as a full time band director, I have developed many musical "games", often based on Suzuki methods, to make learning fundamentals, scales, and repertoire much more enjoyable.  These include practice rewards, Band Olympics, ninja karate belts, and Harry Potter themed games. I tailor each of my lessons to the needs and desires of each individual. I am fond of using method books such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Bruce Peterson's Standard of Excellence (or, with school children in a band program, whatever their method book may be), but I also like to bring separate handouts or sheets of exercises, drills, and songs that I have created over the years. I began teaching as a college student. Many of my peers looked up to me and I helped them along their musical path. I further assisted them on their instrument technique, and assisted in learning new styles like jazz music. Music has always been at the center of my life and has given me so much. My saxophone teacher in high school was an inspiration to me and propelled me into music in college. In college I learned more and more about classical saxophone, and it became my dream to make that my living. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Music from Florida State University, then continued my education locally at Florida International University to earn my Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance. As such, I am able to do similar feats with transcribing music onto sheet music, regardless of the instrument, genre, technical difficulty, etc. As an overall person, I am very well-rounded and approachable. I have a very eclectic taste in music, studio art, and film. Being of the experience, I have an especial inclination toward music of the West African diaspora.
