I have been involved in music as a player since 1966, and have been a featured soloist on both trumpet and clarinet with concert bands around the Southeast. I began playing my secondary instrument (trumpet) in 1970, and have studied conducting with symphony orchestras and concert bands. I like to start where the student is. For my youngest students, we begin with the basics of counting and the music alphabet. For older students and adults, I assess prior knowledge and go from there. i like to have the students help me create up to three goals for the semester or year so that we can have something specific to aim for and measure.
