I focus on a skills based learning regimen. I often start beginners out without using a book, just learning to make the instrument perform before we add the complexities of music notation to the mix. With more advanced students I work on the small details of mastering the instrument, and translate that into performance. Officially I did some tutoring and a pre-teacher program in high school, along with some volunteering at after school programs. I also tutored and taught private lessons while in college. A passion for learning music is never something that can be forced. Therefore, when teaching a student, I never force them to achieve unattainable goals. I encourage them to learn at their own pace with "stepping-stone" goals; my students learn rudiments that build onto progressively more advanced techniques! I will also look at songs pertaining to their chosen instrument and their current proficiency at said instrument.
