I have given lessons to students who are just starting out and high school students preparing for auditions and/other performances. I highly encourage students to start taking lessons as early as possible to establish good habits and break bad ones. I am careful to choose the appropriate music for each age. if there is a child, for me is very important the relationship with the parents, because they know a lot of goals from the child. The most important thing to me in teaching is to ensure that the student is learning and *enjoying* their instrument. Playing the saxophone has brought me so much personal joy and FUN and I want all of my students to have the same experience! I realize that not every student is the same and that some teaching methods may not work as well for some as they do for others, which is why I work hard to make every student's lesson unique and focus on how they can and want to progress. I tailor lessons for each individual student based upon their age, ability, and cognition. I am a big believer in repetition, and reinforce fundamentals heavily. For all students, we will work greatly on building good habits right away. We will do exercises for breathing, embouchure, and hand position. From there, we will work on tone quality. As we begin learning notes and rhythms, we will use method books such as Essential Elements, in addition to easy songs for beginners to get comfortable practicing and eventually performing.
