For piano students, I prefer Alfred's methods, whether the adult or for beginners. For band and orchestra, I use Essential Elements (or whatever their school is using), and supplement with Rubank's methods. For voice, I concentrate on whatever the student is interested in, with a foundation of good technique and understanding of the voice range and how to control it, with some solfege and sight-singing mixed in. I started teaching back in high school to marching band students that wanted to play saxophone. That experience turned into a passion that carried into college where I taught music ed students as well as anyone else that wanted to learn the saxophone. As a teacher, I encourage consistent practice on a regular basis to all my students so they can achieve what they wish to achieve. I've found that holding realistic goals as well as maintaining a balance between teaching different fundamentals is key to keeping students motivated and excited playing the saxophone. Read More

Many of my former students have gone on to become professional musicians in their own right.
