I am a multifaceted musician, music producer, composer and instrumentalist with diverse musical experience spanning many genres and styles. I graduated from Bard College in 2016 with a degree in music composition. While at Bard, I was involved with the opera workshop and the audio engineering crew. I play six instruments and am able to teach most of them proficiently. Currently, I perform as a solo musician with a backing band at venues and clubs throughout the New York area, and also compose and produce music for film, TV, video games and advertisements. My gift is understanding concepts and explaining them in a way people can understand (and adapting it to their learning style). I try to combine the best aspects of the instruction I received on piano and guitar, with useful and practical concepts (and styles) I had to seek out on my own. Typically I work out of the Ernie Ball How To Play Guitar books (Phases 1 and 2), while also incorporating popular songs (including songs the student wants to learn, as soon as they are compatible with his/her skill level). For beginning students, I always start by learning the notes on the staff that corresponds with their specific instrument. Knowledge and confidence of this is crucial to the learning process. Next, I pick a method book to work through to learn the fundamentals. For trombone, I use Rubank's "Elementary Method." It is a great progressive studies that has great explanations, exercises, etudes, duets, mini-solos, scales studies, and more for young students. Read More

From there, we can build upon these foundations and explore more advanced concepts and techniques. I believe it is important to not only teach the technical aspect of drumming, but also the musicality and artistry that go into creating drum beats and rhythms. I encourage my students to listen to a wide range of music and try to incorporate different styles and influences into their playing. One of the things I love most about teaching drums is seeing my students progress and discover their own unique voice as drummers. Read More

On piano, for beginner students, I often start them on some of the primer level method books, either from the Faber and Faber "Piano Adventures" series or the Alfred beginning piano series and then transition to having the students learn music they want to learn and are excited about playing. I often will make custom transcriptions/arrangements of songs my students like that are especially designed for their skill level. Read More
