My teaching style is most likely comparatively relaxed. I feel this is necessary because having fun and finding joy are the most important aspects of music. I have a deep appreciation for the stories behind music. I enjoy sprinkling in history and culture studies in music lessons. It adds to the story of music. For beginner guitar students I use Mel Bays You Can Teach Yourself guitar . I emphasize chords and technique and playing melodies. For piano students I teach students first to listen and immitate and then read. Once they master some basics in reading music I introduce chords. My vocal students start each lesson with warmups and apply the techniques to the songs that they are learning. I began teaching private lessons while in college, teaching classical, electric and acoustic guitar. For the past 5 years that I have been in Nashville I have been teaching again for the last 2. I have experience in teaching students as young as 5 and as old as 65. There is no age limit on learning!
