I create custom lesson plans depending on each student's musical background, stylistic preference, as well as age. For children I usually like to teach out of Hal Leonard's Guitar Method 1 and occasionally include songs they like/know as a reward for good work. For adults, it varies depending on their experience level and interests. When I teach, I try to teach not only how to physically play certain parts, but also how to think about music-- how the guitar player arrived playing that, why it works, and how to adopt similar things into one's own playing. I use a very concise methodology in my instruction. I evaluate the students level, from there I make a step by step guide (of selected piece and etudes) to show the student their progress into the next level. I also encorperate ideas in theory, history, and ear training. Also if the student has yet to learn how to read musical notation. that will be taught along side with regular instrumental lessons. I am very easy teacher to learn from. I understand that every student is different, and learns at his or her own pace. I will move you along as fast or slow as you like, depending on how much information you are retaining. We will be doing a lot of memorization work, and written music theory, while you develop the necessary hand strength to play the guitar properly. So, with plenty of time, patience, and above all, PRACTICE, you will be well on your way to playing your favorite songs, and TEACHING YOURSELF new songs. Read More

Our first lesson will kind of act as an interview to really get to know the student. I will have a student play, no matter the level so I can asses and start crafting a curriculum customized to their needs and wants. Read More

My teaching style is a combination of both specific repeating methods and occasional spontaneity. The methods I implement are designed to build on and use what has been learned in previous lessons; so that the end goal is always geared towards mastery of knowledge and skill. There is a lot of repetition involved as far as always referring back to previous lessons. I also implement games from time to time to help a student master a skill they may be having difficulty with; so as to dissuade discouragement and keep the the student engaged and interested.
