However, as stated before, the pace in which I teach each student will vary depending the abilities of each student. Once the student has graduated from the Piano Adventure series, we will begin building their solo repertoire. When choosing pieces for the student's repertoire, I will also work with the student in order to pick pieces that student will both enjoy learning and grow as a musician. My teaching style includes positive reinforcement, making and achieving small measurable goals that lead to big measurable goals, and teaching and instilling correct daily practice methods. I encourage each student to do their best each day and push through the difficult places. When something is too difficult for a student, I break it down into smaller, more understandable pieces, or change tactics to a different subject or piece. Most of my lesson plans are customized for each student, depending the style they are interested in, and the level that they are already playing. Generally speaking for beginners, I begin with teaching about the instrument (string names, frets, tuning, etc.). Then we move on to chords, starting with the easiest ones to play. Once they have grasped how the instrument and chords work, we continue on to melodies and simple 3 chord songs. Read More
