I have taught general music in three school districts: 10 years in Tomball Texas; 5 years in Huffman Texas and 3 years in Tempe Arizona. In addition to teaching in the public schools, I have been teaching privately for 20 years. I have owned and operated a studio for 7 years. The studio was sold because of the tremendous overhead. I believe listening is the key to learning. I listen to my students to discover what techniques are working best for them and which are their weakest then adapt my lessons to their needs. I also try to teach students how to listen to music, hear the empty spaces in songs that really give them their polish, and how to listen for other individual instruments to understand whem to accompany instruments and when to give them their own space. I've been playing and studying the art of guitar since I was 14. In 2012, I began teaching private guitar lessons teaching basic theory, technique, songwriting, and approach to improv. I began pursuing my musical career more thoroughly after getting admitted into Berklee College of Music in 2018. I use a number of resources to teach students concepts in musical performance. This includes online resources and method books that enhance fundamentals and technique. I do believe that understanding of music theory is necessary to advance beyond the intermediate level, and this system has assisted in training many students over the years. I have almost 30 years of experience as a recording and performing musician. I studied in Detroit, London and Los Angeles, and recieved my BA in music and Performing Arts in 20011. Since then I have made a living writing pop songs and movie soundtracks, performing and teaching. I consistently write 5 songs a week, and then select and develop the best material into a finished product.
