I have discovered all beginning guitar methods are essentially the same, so pretty much any of them will work for a beginner. It is how the individual processes the information! Dedication, perseverance, preparation, and practice always pay off as long as you're using the correct methods for practicing, staying in time and being consistent. I'm not the kind of teacher who gets angry if the student didn't practice the homework or lesson material they were given. What matters is the students being able to get a general idea and understanding of the lesson where they can continue moving forward in their musical/artistic career and possibly apply what they learned in their own journey. When I begin with a new student, I generally jam and analyze my student's abilities, skill level, techniques and interests/desires in music styles. When I have a good idea about my student's ability and skill level, we begin with focusing on what needs to be improved. For beginner children, I like to focus on the fundamentals and keep interest with keeping things creative, exciting and fun!
