I am a professional guitar player, composer and educator. In 2008, I graduated from Michigan State University with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Composition. Prior to that, I finished programs in Europe as a guitar player in 1991. I moved to the United States in 1994. From 1995 to 2001, I've completed Master's degrees in Guitar, Composition and Electronic Music from University of Maine and Cleveland State University. The approach I feel works best for teaching students how to play guitar, is to try to create a positive feedback loop. This can be created by finding music that the student likes and that challenges them, but isn't overly difficult to the point that they have to slog through it for months to get anywhere. I also emphasize the point of getting the guitar into their hands everyday. It helps a lot hack away at it as much as possible. Read More
