I use many different methods, and I do not limit myself to the following list. I believe in a warm-up for all instruments, so each lesson will start with one (scales, long tones, etc.) For flute, I often start with either the book that comes with the rental book, old band books, etc. then I venture off into etude books, long tone books, and solos that promote individual development. As a teacher it has always been my goal to inspire my students to connect with music in a meaningful way. I do this by teaching at each students' own pace and setting acheivable goals along the way to encourage progress and to create an atmosphere where my students are able to succeed. I love to get to know my students and use different books, songs, techniques, to really reach their level and motivation. I started playing the flute before 6th grade and instantly fell in love with the flute and with music. Inspired by the wonderful music teachers I had over the years, I strive to provide that same level of care, knowledge, fun, and passion for music to all of my students. In 2011, I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance. I am originally from Michigan and moved to Indiana to earn a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from Ball State University. Read More
