For my piano students, I teach them on a keyboard to get them familiarized with the layout of the piano. I teach proper fingerings, scales, and most importantly music theory. For my flute, clarinet, and saxophone students I work out of appropriate etude books for their performance level. I also teach jazz improvisation. For young beginners, I make use the method book that is being used at their school as well as supplying materials specifically for their instrument. As the student progresses, he/she will be introduced to solo repertoire as well advance method books for recital and competitive purposes. The objective is keep the student challenged but at the same time making sure the lessons are enjoyable.
