I don't believe in a one size fits all mentality for music education, I've often seen this approach derail students from enjoying the process and eventually terminating their relationship with music overall. Students are a case-by-case basis, and in that regard, each lesson is catered to the students actual goals and interests. No matter how old is the student or how many experiences that they have, one thing I am emphasizing in the lesson is enhancing their interest and motivation in playing the piano. It is because I can offer them the method of practice, musical knowledge, but ultimately it is their decision to practice or devote in music or not. My approach to coaching students is focused on 5 important areas; embouchure, tone quality, intonation (pitch), technique, and time. Memorization of key signatures and scales are very important to the student's overall success. I utilize a method for memorizing key signatures which will decrease the memorization time and increaseretention. If the student is not enrolled in band at a public school, I typically use a combination of materials. Focus on fundamentals at the beginner level is essential for musical proficiency.
