My teaching method is different for every student based on age, level, and their musical goals. However, the two things that I try to keep consistent among all of my students is a solid technical foundation and curiosity for different musical styles. For beginners, I typically start with the Rubank Beginner or Intermediate method book. I fell in love with playing music when I was handed a flute by my teacher in the sixth grade.  Twice I marched in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Great American Marching Band. In High School I played a concerto on flute with the string orchestra and had the opportunity to conduct the concert band.  Since then I have had the opportunity to play with various ensembles at Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York. I graduated Brooklyn College in 2014 and am looking forward to passing on my love of music to others. I work with my students from a method book, and then move to  add scales, etudes, and repertoire as they advance. Additionally, if I start teaching an older student as a beginner, I believe it is important to teach them at their intellectual level. I never intend to talk down to my students, and I always strive to meet them where they are to raise their level of understanding. For beginners of any age, I begin by discussing goals, milestones, and how we will achieve them. I do use method books, but only recommend those that will be useful in and out of lessons. I keep lessons fun and engaging, and always demonstrate before expecting the student to do the same. Fundamentals as building blocks are always needed, but I never keep a learning plan the same from student to student- goals (that can always be changed) are what I use to guide a student to be confident for any performance. I taught classical flute and recorder in the Austrian school system and music schools for 15 years. Later, I was the band director and music teacher for the grades 4-12 grades in the Syracuse City Schools. I conducted a concert band, jazz band and had over 70 students in my band programs. Keyboards class, music history and general music were also a part of my teaching experience.
