I began teaching while in college and have now been teaching for 11 years.  My students have ranged in age from 3-60.  Since getting my Suzuki Flute certification in 2008,  I have found the Suzuki method a great way to start young beginners.  In addition to giving private lessons, I taught group flute classes for 3 years with the Harmony Program  My students are encouraged to participate in ensembles, competitions and recitals as having such goals is a great motivation for practice and musical growth. I have been teaching in a variety of contexts since my time at Whitworth University, where I started as a Teacher's Assistant for several Music Theory and Ear Training courses. There, I developed skills for leading group study sessions as well as doing individual tutoring. I also developed rehearsal technique while coordinating and rehearsing various chamber ensemble groups for the purpose of performing my original compositions. I have been teaching saxophone lessons ever since I was 15 years old, when I used to mentor other students who were just starting to play. I am comfortable teaching all ages, and have had students in the past ranging from ages 6 to 50.
