Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

While in my undergraduate degree I had the opportunity to perform in every ensemble (Jazz Band, Wind Symphony, Orchestra, Etc.) Marshall University had to offer. I am a big fan of the Rubank elementary, intermediate, and advance methods. In addition I like incorporate sight reading into lessons due to being a common element in auditions. For high school students the I use Rubank books and supplement that with Rose etudes as they are often use as audition material in KY. I typically have unique lesson plans and approaches for each student once technique and basics have been learned, as everyone tends to learn differently from everyone else. However, I always like to start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, and I like to take exercises from my own collection that I've accumulated over the years, and determine which exercise is needed based on which aspects of playing a student might need working on. I use the standard teaching methods for flute such as the Taffanel and Gaubert "Daily exercises for flute." I am also very serious about using the Moyse technique and sound books such as "Tone delevopment through interpretation." I believe these method books are essential in playing the flute. Read More
