When working with new flute students, my focus is on a solid sound, technique, hand/body position, and learning to read and play music. To help learn to read the notes, I use Hal Leonards Essentials Elements Series. Once the student has learned to read music and has learned all of the notes, I begin using Taffanel and Gauberts 17 Daily Exercises to build the students technique and knowledge of scales, arpeggios, etc. Read More

My teaching style may vary depending upon the student. I have several books and other teaching material available for my students. These include: Berkley Music Theory I and II, several Hal Leonard, and Fischer books and more! Lesson material will mostly depend upon the student's goals and current skill-set. EVERY lesson will consist of: assessing and tracking the student's skill-set, solidifying the student's goals along with my goals for the student, and creating a plan of action to follow in order to reach these goals. This might include taking a solo to contest, performing a recital, working on marching band or concert band music, or any other musical outlet. Based on the desires of the student, I can tailor my lessons to suite them personally. Guitar: for beginners, I typically turn to Mel Bays Method books. Once fundamentals are established, I want to learn what styles, bands, and artists the student likes. This helps me figure out which techniques and skills the student might need to know first in order to learn to play the music they enjoy. Read More

After teaching myself theory at the age of 4, I received my first musical instruction in 6th grade. At that time I learned to play the flute. This is where my musicianship began to blossom and opportunities were sent my way. Thanks to my love and dedication, I was one of a few placed in special bands. Auditioning & being selected for choruses during this time increased as well. As a result of my hard work, I was offered & accepted the positions at section leader and Drum Majorette in my high school's concert and marching bands & after joining choir my junior year I became lead soloist of the choir. All of my students are encouraged to participate in their school band programs and solo contests. Read More
