I like to begin all my students on a combination of technical studies and enjoyable/familiar melodies. This will help them learn the fundamentals in a rewarding way, because as they progress they will continue to learn new songs week after week. This is much more rewarding than checking of series of technical exercises. Due to lessons being customized for each student various method materials will be used including: method books, theory books, performance books, and my own materials that are created to fit the students' needs. After a level assessment during the first lesson music, including books, practice materials, and solos will be chosen to meet that level and be age appropriate. Lesson pacing will be set at an appropriate rate so that older students will be taught at a faster rate than a young beginner so that each student is given the best experience possible while still having fun! I have been teaching private lessons for over 8 years. Some of my students competed in state solo and ensemble competitions and received Gold and Silver awards. Other students have participated in recitals, music camps, and marching bands. Before I started giving lessons, I volunteered with a community group in Indiana called the Phillips Music Guild of Indianapolis. I first started music at a young age through my local church; my first instrument being flute. I studied flute for many years before taking formal voice lessons. This led me to become a voice performance major at the Manhattan School of Music, where I sang lead roles in and outside of the school. In addition, I continued my flute studies as well as strengthen my piano skills. I've had the opportunity to perform at the Kimmel Center as soloist and chorister, Symphonic Space (NYC), as well as abroad in Italy and France. Read More
