I am a passionate and dedicated musician with a broad range of experiences both in education and performance. As a solo artist, I have toured the United States extensively, and have performed at festivals in the Caribbean and Denmark. Having performed and taught music in so many styles, I feel I can bring a lot of perspective to each lesson. I continued my flute studio and became a band director in 2000 and taught band in North and South Carolina until 2014. I worked on my masters degree in music eduation from the University of North Carolia at Pembroke and received 18 hours graduate credit. Once the student gets in track, I start introducing more advanced book such Rubank, J.H Luft, H.Klose and Feerling. For adults and more advanced students, most likely I develop a custom guide and protocol based on what their focus of interest is. For over 6 years now, I have been teaching flute within different contexts. Some of the most meaningful teaching experiences I have had have taught me about the unique relationship we each have with the art of music. Private lessons have provided an outlet to encourage and guide individuals based on their needs; educational outreach concerts have given me the opportunity to address easy and complex subjects according to the audience in front of me; masterclasses have given me the opportunity to help individuals gain a strong sense of confidence from a foundation of understanding while nurturing the audience's curiosity regarding music; and working as a Teaching Artist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra has brought all these elements of teaching and learning to a brand new level that has only strengthened my foundation as a teacher.
