I love to teach music because it reminds me of the joy I felt in the process of musical discovery when I was a student. In 1996, I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Percussion Performance. Since graduation, I've had the opportunity to explore many avenues within the world of percussion. I am a professional drummer and percussionist residing in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. I grew up in northern New Jersey and studied in New York City with well-respected educator Sam Ulano. I went on to attend Rowan University and studied percussion with Dean Witten (Frank Sinatra). During that period, I also studied vibes with Dave Samuels (Spyrogyra). I graduated with a BA in Applied Percussion & Commercial Music. I have worked up and down the East Coast, including well known venues such as the Atlantic City Showrooms and Westbury Music Fair. My aim is to cultivate in students a love of playing that will motive them to practice regularly. Rather than being totally result-oriented, I emphasize the process of learning and practicing, which can be a rewarding experience in itself, and have beneficial effects that stretch beyond just musical achievement. I try to create a learning environment that is challenging, stimulating, and most importantly, fun. I want to empower students with the skills and confidence to teach themselves, so they can continue to develop independently, and have music as a source of joy that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. I have certain methods that are useful from beginners to advanced students. I always meet a student where they are at and then guide them to gain the skills that they require for the goals they want to achieve. I don't subscribe to the notion that one MUST read music to play music - that is not how most of the world works, but I am a large advocate of being literate. Read More
