I started playing guitar at age 8. In my formative years I studied with various instructors around central Indianapolis until mid year of '85. Upon this time I studied a full year with James Lee Thorpe whom eventually played, toured recorded with Sweet F.A. They released albums with MCA Chrysalis Records. I teach all levels from Beginner through Advanced. I often, with beginners, make sure we learn the fundamentals. This gives them a firm foundation, so when we move on, we are not forced to go back to the beginning. I believe the key to being an advanced drummer is the concept of foot-hand independence. I am an avid music lover, performer, and teacher. I was lucky to study piano from a young age and have the amazing pre-collegiate experiences of appearing on MTV's Made and opening for the likes of McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, and Bela Fleck. I then received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where I studied saxophone performance as well as piano, songwriting, and audio production. For beginning students I typically start them on just the snare drum by itself. The drum set has a lot of moving parts and I've noticed that kids get discouraged and sometimes quit when they don't pick things up as quickly as they would like too. Once they have an understanding of the fundamentals then we can continue moving forward in their musical development. I always try to find out what the student is interested in, and I guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons fun and engaging no matter what the ability level may be. Read More
