I began teaching at Humboldt State University in 2010, through an education program for children ages 6-15. During the year and a half I worked there, I discovered a genuine love for sharing the passion and enthusiasm I had for music with my students. After 2 1/2 more year of leading student ensembles, teaching children and adults individually and in groups, and giving private lessons out of my home, I have amassed enough experience to feel confident teaching any student passionate about learning. My teaching style is really based on the individual student. The most important aspect of developing mastery of anything is enjoying what you're doing and different people enjoy different styles of teaching. Teaching music is more than an income to me. Drumming has opened doors in my life I never imagined. Understanding music has pushed my drumming further away from being merely a mechanical exercise to full transcendental experience. Playing music from the heart with the know-how to conceptualize and quantify it lends itself to limitless potential for improvement, enjoyment, and sustained participation in music. Sharing the joy of music with the next generation of musicians is what motivates me. Read More

My teaching style is fast-paced, fun, and engaging. I integrate many musical styles and genres, from pop to classical to give my students a wide array of musical experiences. I believe in positive reinforcement and prioritize a student's social-emotional learning. Through music, my students will learn about the world, their community, and themselves. I focus on growth and not benchmarks to assess the success of my students. I also gig regularly on both instruments, allowing my students to have ample opportunities to watch me play. Read More
