Having taken lessons on several instruments and being self-taught on others I understand that the most important thing a teacher can instill in their student is 1) the basic knowledge to understand the instrument, and 2) the passion to discover and teach themselves. I began helping my friends work through their music when I was 19 at Missouri Western State University, and eventually cultivated a bustling studio of students through word of mouth. I now teach full time in Zoom and in person with house visits, or at my home studio. I work on a lesson to lesson basis, building upon the previous lesson, gradually adding new and exciting things into the mix, and finally throwing it all together and seeing what needs to be improved upon. I usually begin with some basic theory and then show various techniques from popular works and how this can be applied to original compositions. I also like to employ ear training exercises and sight reading exercises to help with the intellectual side of music and to help any current students in a “band” or Music scholastic program.
