Music is fun. The only reason to start learning an instrument is so you can have fun while learning, because you never stop learning. While I have certain processes while teaching, lessons will be tailored to the student. We will make sure to take note of progress so the student can see where they were when they started compared to what they can do now. I prefer to build the foundation of knowledge on how and why something works. I usually begin with some basic theory and then show various techniques from popular works and how this can be applied to original compositions. I picked up teaching during my second year of college with some help from my mother- a long-time piano teacher. During that time I taught several different students ranging from age 6 to adult on various instruments including piano, guitar, and drums. I've experienced the different learning styles and barriers that come with teaching kids, teens, and adults. Additionally, I have experience teaching outside of the music realm having worked as an outdoor educator, camp counselor, and substitute teacher as well as various tutoring sessions throughout my school career.
