For those who are just starting on an instrument, I usually focus on basic technique. Bass and guitar are both physical instruments in their own way, and getting acclimated to the feel of it is key to having success on it. For bass, I typically teach out of the Suzuki book series, while as for guitar, I use the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, however, I am happy to teach whatever method a student or their parents feel strongly about. Instruments: Piano, Guitar, Voice, Violin, Drums, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Mandolin, Electric Violin, Fiddle, Electric Guitar, Djembe, Acoustic Guitar
Drums are my favorite instrument to play and I approach music trying to understand how all the instruments fit together. I was classically trained on violin from the time I was 6 years old and have since taught myself drums, guitar, electric bass, vocals, ukulele and some piano. I see now how all the instruments are related. They all share the same scales and notes and theory, and if you want you can play any music on any instrument. (There's nothing wrong with playing heavy metal on a ukulele or violin!). Read More

I have had extensive lessons on all ends of the music education spectrum. I have been teaching percussion lessons since 2010, when I lived in Norfolk, Virginia. I began teaching young K-5 students the basics of percussion like proper technique, posture, note recognition and values, different styles of music, etc. I began by asking the parents what their child was interested in and based on the conversation, I catered the lessons to each individual student. When I moved to Florida in 2013, I was a graduate assistant at Florida State University, an adjunct professor at Wallace Community College (AL), and an instructor at Mason's School of Music (K-8). I have taught friends and family how to play both drums and guitar. I am always happy to share my knowledge of music theory and composition. I enjoy teaching and have a passion for music. I give great guidelines and techniques for writing original music. I can help students convey emotion in their music using music intervals, chord types, scales, modes, and rhythm. I have patience and understanding of the learning process. Read More
