Music in the school system is taught backwards. If you're a beginner, you were put in a beginning class. this makes it very difficult for students to advance quickly because they aren't playing music with people who are more advanced than them. I make sure the students have the ability to play the instrument before they learn a ton of theory, because knowing how the wrritten form of music work without being able to play them is recipe for frustration. I teach out of a few method books when it comes to percussion. Vocals is more of a discovery process while utilizing some neat exercises to build vocal chord strength. With a drummers they can learn multiple ways to do the same application, while a vocal student only has their one voice to work with. I always teach fundamentals, and will focus a lot on it depending on the students needs, to help them achieve a goal they have set out to achieve. Read More
